Greetings from Captain Buddy!
Well, the Everglades certainly received some fresh water!! The last time we got this much water was from Hurricane Ian in 2022. Previously, in 2017 Hurricane Irma brought similar moisture. The good news is that in both instances, it sparked better fishing for SW Florida. It makes one wonder, how the fishing will be when the Everglades Restoration Project is completed? Fresh water all of the time could be magical.
I’ve fished often the past few months. We’ve managed to catch some really nice snook, redfish, and smaller tarpon. My opinion is that the fishing has been better than last summer. Without a busy charter schedule, it sure allows me to explore and fish where I haven’t previously. Yep, I’m still getting broken off, darn it! What a boost of adrenaline when a large snook takes the fly near the mangroves. I’m beginning to think that you just need a “not so smart” fish that swims away from the mangroves, to eventually get it to the boat.
I still have the same level of excitement I had 20 plus years ago each time I get on the water. One never knows what one lucky cast could produce! The whole adventure is so peaceful and therapeutic, I don’t think I’ll ever quit!
Signing off……….
Captain Buddy
