Greetings from Captain Buddy,
Since my last correspondence, the water temps have risen quickly. Lately they’ve been hovering in the low to high 70-degree mark.
Tarpon have been showing up over the past 2 weeks. Spring time in southwest Florida is certainly my favorite and most exciting time to fish!
I’m catching redfish occasionally. The snook have been more active, as they make their way back from their winter haunts. Throughout the winter, I mainly caught smaller snook. However, within the past 2 weeks, I’ve had 4 or 5 larger snook on and many more sightings. The photo attached is a snook approximately 40” in length. My guess is that she was a solid 22 lbs and therefore would make her my personal best on fly! I was fortunate to have gotten this one on camera – it’s always a bit more challenging when one is alone with the action and attempting to set up for the best photo shot possible. Delighted with the snapshot and even happier to see her take to the water and swim away, strong and healthy, maybe to ‘play’ another day.
I sincerely hope the day comes soon when legislation is passed that supports catch and release regulations for all snook caught in the Everglades National Park.
Signing off………
Captain Buddy
